Overview:

Understanding Racism in Co-Production explored the experiences of individuals from racialised backgrounds involved in co-production. The work shed light on the unique challenges, inequities, and painful realities that emerge in these spaces. Although co-production can be considered to be collaborative and equitable, it also can too often become a space where systemic racism is perpetuated.

This important work was led by Isaac Samuels and Samantha-Jane Ofoegbu, and was a deeply emotional and transformative journey. As part of this work, they gathered over 30 personal stories and produced an insight report that brings to the forefront racialised voices involved in co-production. Through sense-making workshops they collectively explored the key findings, delving into how we can reshape these spaces to create more inclusive experiences for individuals from the global majority. The work has initiated a series of learning sessions with people and organisations working in co-production to enable them to take on-board the project’s call to action and findings.
