Coproduction case study

Trafford General Hospital

We've been working with the Customer Care Team at Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. The trust provides mental health services to the populations of Bolton, Salford and Trafford, specialist services at Prestwich and a variety of drug and alcohol services in many areas across the North West.

We supported the team in training service users from specialist mental health and drug and alcohol units in how to become skilled and confident ‘embedded’ reporters. This peer to peer approach was an important way to, “help guide conversations and plans to maximise their value in the services they provide,” said Jonathan Roberts from the Trust.

These reporters were able to gain access, speak the language of their peers and capture footage in a powerful way using media. Their findings could then be shared with staff and management to refine service provision and best meet the needs of service users.

Jonathan added,

“We truly benefited from working with People’s Voice Media and without their help would have struggled to complete the task we were given. People’s Voice Media provided an intelligent and flexible service and …we have now trained service users, staff and workers and volunteers from partner organisations to make films and will continue with the work for the foreseeable future. Personally, I can say that I really enjoyed working with People’s Voice Media. The organisation has energy and vibrancy which are infectious.”
