Mary - Older person

Mary is 55 and has been unemployed for the last 9 years. She came to Ordsall community café to use the café facilities on a regular basis. Once while she was there she was approached by a community reporter. The reporter asked her to talk about her experience and recorded it on her mobile phone. As a result of this Mary decided to join the community reporter’s programme at the café. She was initially very apprehensive about her abilities.

Annabel - Dyslexia

Annabel had been applying for jobs for over a year. Although she has a degree in photography she was finding it difficult to get interviews as her application forms were poor as a result of her severe dyslexia. She became a community reporter and developed skills in podcasting. This led her to record her experience of applying for a job.

Alan - Incapacity benefit

Alan is currently on incapacity benefit and has not worked for the last 8 years. He was interested in video and completed a course in creating video using mobile phones.

He was keen to develop a career in the media but felt he did did not have enough work experience. He approached MCIN to become a Community Reporter and was interested in receiving a community reporter’s badge and producing blogs and video.
